Sarah Flett is a senior associate at Morris. Sarah completed her BA/LLB at the University of Canterbury.
Before joining Morris in 2022, Sarah worked in the dispute resolution team at Parry Field Lawyers in Christchurch.
Sarah acts for clients on a wide range of complex trust, estate and family disputes. She has particular experience in high net worth relationship property disputes involving trusts and company structures. Sarah also has expertise in contentious trust matters, including acting for the successful applicant in a High Court claim to remove the trustees of a testamentary trust, which was upheld on appeal.
Sarah appears regularly in the Family Court and High Court. She has attended numerous judicial settlement conferences and mediations involving estate and relationship property matters.
Sarah is a member of the Family Law Section and Auckland Women Lawyers' Association. Sarah is an affiliate member of STEP and is completing the STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates.
Experience
Junior counsel in successful High Court application to remove trustees of a testamentary trust (Gallagher-Dekker v Gallagher [2024] NZHC 1329) and the subsequent appeal (Gallagher v Gallagher-Dekker [2025] NZCA 421).
Lead counsel for a mother in a two day Family Court hearing under the Child Support Act 1991.
Junior counsel for an offshore high net worth individual in a care of children dispute, involving numerous urgent hearings and a four day substantive Family Court hearing.
Junior counsel for a husband in division of property, family violence and care of children dispute, involving high value companies, trusts and jurisdictional issues.
Acting for a de facto partner seeking to set aside a multi-million dollar share distribution to a trust and successfully obtaining discovery orders and an undertaking freezing the sale proceeds.
Lead counsel in a contested spousal maintenance hearing, successfully obtaining final maintenance orders.
