Children & Guardianship

We assist clients who are unable to agree on care arrangements for their children. We also act on urgent applications involving relocation or safety concerns.

Separating can be particularly difficult when there are children involved. Issues can also arise years after separation as children’s needs change and their parents’ lives move in different directions. We help parents navigate these issues and, where court is unavoidable, represent them in Family Court proceedings.

Common issues include how parents will divide care of their children, whether a parent needs supervision, what school a child will attend, what medical treatment a child requires and whether a child will relocate with a parent within New Zealand or overseas.

We understand that disputes relating to children are particularly stressful and of the utmost importance to our clients. We work with you to resolve any disputes efficiently, minimising the impact on the children as much as possible.

We frequently advise parents who require urgent assistance to prevent another parent from having care of their children due to safety concerns or to prevent the removal of children from New Zealand without their consent. We also act for parents who wish to relocate overseas to ensure they can do so with certainty.
